Leaving a Gift in Your Will
After family and loved ones are looked after, a bequest gift may be the most significant donation many of us will be able to make.
We appreciate family and loved ones should always come first, and believe that it is an important step to talk to your family about your Will. Happy Paws Haven is grateful when people decide to include a gift in their Will to us, as this is a vital source of income for us to continue our lifesaving work.
Make or Updating Your Will
As our life circumstances change, so should our Will reflect this. Perhaps you have married since you last made your Will, or now have children. Your Will is an important document that must be properly thought about and prepared. Happy Paws Haven always recommends using a solicitor to make sure your Will is legal and valid. Your solicitor can advise you on the different ways of leaving a gift
Different Types of Gifts
- Fixed sum of money gift: is also known as a pecuniary bequest, this gift is in the form of a specified cash amount.
- Residual gift: by leaving a residual gift to the Happy Paws Haven Inc. you are instructing your Executor that, once your debts are paid and specific gifts are distributed to loved ones named in your Will, the remainder, or a percentage % of the remainder, of your Estate will be paid to the Happy Paws Haven Inc. A residual bequest is a simple way to leave a gift that needn’t interfere with any other specific bequests left to loved ones.
- Whole or part of your estate: you can leave your entire estate or any part of your Estate to the Happy Paws Haven.
- A specific gift or item: a gift in the form of other property such as shares, investments, vehicles, boats, or items of jewelry, or household contents (goods and chattels).
- Superannuation donation: you may choose to leave your Superannuation to Happy Paws Haven Inc but please note, you will also need to call your superfund provider ahead of time, as you will need to sign some of their own documentation and have their approval, prior to preparing your Will.
